01 Apr Ensuring Your Comfort During Oral Surgery
We offer a number of oral surgical procedures to help smiles, from securing individual dental implants or All-On-Four same-day implant dentures, to treating jaw imbalance and facial trauma. Regardless of whether you’re undergoing a minor or more extensive procedure, we want you to feel comfortable. With our team at Charlottesville Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Centers, we can provide options like local anesthesia and sedation to help you stay comfortable.
Planning Your Treatment
When you come to our team for treatment, whether on your own or due to a referral from a general dentist or orthodontist, our team will take a close look at your smile with digital imaging technology, so we can accurately assess the cause and extent of your oral health concern. From there, our team can plan treatment in detail to help you avoid further complications, and obtain results that look natural. From wisdom tooth extraction to dental implant placement, we can help your smile stay strong, healthy, and beautiful. But to keep you comfortable, we may recommend calming medications.
Local Anesthesia
Local anesthesia is administered to the area of the smile being treated via an injection. This helps numb the area so you’re comfortable as we conduct treatment, whether you’re undergoing a minor extraction or a more complex grafting or sinus lift procedure. The effects will wear off once the procedure ends, but you may have some lingering numbness for a bit once the treatment ends. This is safe for all ages, and very effective at making your procedure a positive and comfortable experience.
Dental Sedation
Our team could also offer dental sedation to help you enter a calm and relaxed state, which is very helpful for those with dental anxiety or special needs, or those undergoing more extensive treatments. The option we choose will depend on a number of different factors, such as age, weight, medical history, medications you’re taking, and anxiety levels.
We could recommend nitrous oxide, administered through a mask over the nose, to help you enter a calm state. The effects wear off right away once the procedure ends. Oral conscious sedation is taken in a pill or liquid form before the procedure begins and offers a deeper state of calm. You will be a bit groggy and may need someone to bring you home. The deepest form of sedation is IV, and a trained anesthesiologist will be on hand to monitor you throughout the process!
