A set of third molars, wisdom teeth emerge through the gums many years after the rest of adult teeth. The rest of adult teeth come through the gums during adolescence whereas third molars begin to emerge between the ages of 17 and 25. Since these teeth come in during adulthood, adult teeth are well established in the jaw and therefore do not provide enough room for the healthy eruption of new teeth.
